📸 Mount Bental Lookout | Golan Heights, Israel

📝 My Story:

Mount Bental was the northernmost point we reached during our travels — and it was unforgettable.

The lookout sits high in the Golan Heights, offering sweeping views across Israel’s northern landscape, all the way to the borders of Syria.
If the light and clouds cooperate, you can even see the snow-capped peak of Mount Hermon glinting in the distance — a breathtaking sight against the rolling hills.

This site isn't just about views — it's layered with history.
The area was once a military outpost during the Yom Kippur War, and you can still explore parts of the old Israeli bunker, tunnels, and outposts today.

Wandering through the lookout and the remnants of the old fortress felt both awe-inspiring and humbling — the beauty of the landscape mixed with a deep sense of history.

📌 Quick Info:

  • 🏙️ Region: Golan Heights, Northern Israel

  • 🅿️ Parking: Free parking available near the entrance to the lookout

  • 🚻 Bathrooms: Available near the small café/shop on-site

  • 🧭 Travel Tip: Visit on a clear day for the best views toward Mount Hermon and Syria

  • 📸 Photographer’s Note: Long lenses are great for capturing distant mountain peaks; wide angles work well for the bunkers and landscapes

  • 🛐 Etiquette:

    • Stay within designated areas; some lookout points have sheer drops

    • Be respectful around the old bunker areas and signs

  • 🕰️ Best Time to Visit: Mid-morning for soft light, or late afternoon for sunset over the valleys

  • Accessibility: Moderate — paved paths, but some bunker areas are rough and have steps

💡 Pro Tip:

Bring a light jacket — even on a sunny day, the wind can be surprisingly strong at the top!

📸 Photography Tip:

Try a combination of wide shots to show the sweeping valleys and tight zooms to capture Mount Hermon’s snowy peak or old lookout structures.
Changing weather — clouds moving across the hills — can create incredibly dramatic lighting.

🎉 Fun Fact:

Mount Bental gets its name from a play on words in Hebrew — "Bental" sounds like "son of dew," fitting for a mountain that often catches mist and morning fog.
It’s also home to "Coffee Anan" (☁️☕), a small café with a name that’s a pun on both the word for "cloud" and the former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan!
