Look at a map. Pick a destination. Just go.
To be honest, aside from the minus-10-degree temperatures Minnesota often receives, it’s an extraordinary state to call home.
I know you’ve had a long week at work. The children’s laundry is overflowing from the hamper. You have emails to answer. The grass is too long. There’s grocery shopping to do.
The list of excuses goes on and on.
But stop for a moment and put the world into perspective.
You have one life to live.
There will always be emails. The grass will keep growing. The laundry can wait.
Take a break and explore something new. Step outside your daily routine and see the beautiful world that has been hiding on the other side of your window.
A few weeks ago, I set out on a road trip with the boys to Franconia Sculpture Park, about an hour northeast of Minneapolis.
If you’ve never been, go.
It’s a great day trip and one of the most unique places we had visited. There were 43 acres of open fields, forests, and sculptures to explore and climb.
We spent what felt like half the day there and still didn’t see everything.
As our adventure continued, Taylors Falls was only a few miles away, and we wanted to make the most of the day. We hiked through the trees and rocks along the St. Croix River and saw some amazing views.
We ventured toward the shore to skip rocks across the flowing river and even did a little rock stacking—which was surprisingly relaxing.
We finished the adventure with ice cream at a local shop downtown before eventually making our way home.
By the end of the night, the boys were practically begging for bed.
Watching the excitement on their faces as they climbed rocks and searched the beach for the perfect skipping stone made every mile worthwhile.
Even though the trip cost practically nothing, we felt like a million bucks.
Go live.
Go laugh.
Go explore the unknown.
