#Neverforget

September 11, 2001.

Exactly 17 years ago today.

It’s difficult to believe what occurred in New York City that morning. Fear, panic, and uncertainty traveled throughout the world as people frantically searched for answers.

I honestly can’t imagine what it was like to be there.

I remember sitting in class during my sophomore year of high school as word quickly traveled through the classrooms. We watched the horror unfold on the giant tube televisions hanging in our rooms.

The world we live in today is certainly different from the one we knew 17 years ago. We could debate whether it has changed for better or worse, but I think we can all agree that it could use a little—or perhaps a lot—more love, understanding, and respect.

No matter where you were born, what you believe, the color of your skin, your political views, or your religious beliefs, we are all human beings with limited time on this earth.

During a trip to New York with some good friends, I had the opportunity to visit the 9/11 Memorial & Museum and see the Broadway show Come From Away.

Both experiences were incredibly powerful and emotionally moving. Together, they helped place the reality of that day into perspective.

If you aren’t familiar with Come From Away, it tells the story of nearly 7,000 airline passengers whose flights were diverted to Newfoundland after U.S. airspace closed on September 11.

Many arrived in the small town of Gander, where local residents opened their homes and lives to complete strangers during an unimaginable moment in history.

The show was extraordinarily uplifting and moving, with talent beyond words.

If you have a moment, visit the show’s official website to learn more about the story.

Never forget.
